What Should Durham’s Resolutions be for 2008?
I headed to Durham today to ask residents what they believe the city should work on in 2008. I was accompanied by fellow NBC17 blogger Wayne Sutton, who held the camera and kept me sane through some computer glitches this afternoon. A lot of residents were hesitant to share their thoughts on camera. But the six folks who agreed to be interviewed offered some insightful suggestions for the Bull City. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Lovely, Ginny - just lovely. Vlogging like this warms my heart - especially when it’s people talking about my favorite North Carolina city.

Nobody said, “Get Oprah”. Will 2008 finally be the year that Oprah comes to Durham?

Maybe Durham could realize it has a big problem and fix its horribly dysfunctional city government.
And you really need to do a better job looking at who you post you your blog

I think Durham should clean up the Justice system that was exposed during the Duke Lacrosse case. Police and Judicial corruption are too important to be overlooked.
Happy New Year

Is it really a coincidence that Victoria Peterson just happens to show up for the party. This so-called Durham activist can smell a camera a mile away. My New Year’s wish for Durham is that the citizens will demand that its leadership be put under the microscope and that a complete and thorough accounting be made of them for the complacency shown in the Duke lacrosse case.

Durham’s new years resolution should be to not issue even a single building permit that facilitates sprawl, and instead to create programs and incentives that encourage infill development, practical and efficient land use and conservation of the space we have.

I hope Durham would resolve, if it hasn’t already, to keep the earplugs in when the Durham-bashers bring up the L-word, because 99% of those comments are coming from people who don’t live in Durham and never liked Durham prior to the spring of ‘06. Those who are actually citizens of Durham see a myriad of issues that require attention, the least of which being “a compete and thorough accounting” of an issue for which the D.A. has already been punished and civil suits are pending. Funny how those who spend all their free time finding blogs to rehash the L case in have never fought for any other injustices in their whole privileged lives.

I’ll keep thinking. Meanwhile, I’d love to hear more from your interviewee specifically about this “improving schools.” What is one thing you would like to see improved, and what do you think should be done to make that happen?

Toastie doesn’t realize that all those “myriad of issues” are all part of the same problem that led Durham to run completely off the rails in the lacrosse case. Instead of featuring her, keeping the earplugs in when Victoria Peterson speaks would be a good start.
