Neighborhood kid tackles world problems with paper and markers
I took a Sunday drive and came across this sign on a pole on Kittrell Drive in Raleigh. I was encouraged to see this homemade sign on a telephone pole.

I just spent two months in Mexico and was shocked by the obesity rate among grade schoolers and teens.
One of my friends in Mexico said that it’s the second-most-overweight country after the US. I believe that. I also suspect that they may be worse off than the US, for their fat is showing up in their kids as well as their grownups. When I see schoolkids in the US, they don’t seem nearly so large.

It probably doesn’t help that fewer schools are offering physical education these days. In an effort to squeeze in as much instructional time as possible to help prepare for No Child Left Behind testing, many schools continue to shave PE time out of schedules. And unfortunately, for some kids, the only major physical activity they have comes from that class. Of course, it’s the parent’s responsibility to make sure they’re still getting exercise and eating right, but we all know that doesn’t always happen.

Is the “and shiny” part about obesity?
I’m so confused!
Cute poster. Kudo to the kid and his PSA!

From McClatchy newspapers:
MEXICO CITY — Fueled by the rising popularity of soft drinks and fast-food restaurants, Mexico has become the second fattest nation in the world. Mexican health officials say it could surpass the U.S. as the most obese country within 10 years if trends continue.

Oddly enough, I thought it said skinny based on your comment. Also, oddly enough, I realized this morning that your twitter name is NOT “SkinnyGal”. There must be a name for that sort of letter flipping - right?
