Fashion Blogging: A summer trip to the city leads to a man to some shoes
When David Millsaps bought these Diesel shoes in New York this summer, he took a little ribbing: “I got made fun of real bad by my friends for picking them up,” he said. I’m glad he decided to buy them anyway. Millsaps is one of the folks behind the New Raleigh blog. When I first met him last week, I couldn’t stop staring at his shoes. The pointed gray, leather-toed shoes jutting out from his jeans were so unusual. I don’t care what anyone says, there’s something to be said for men who sport stylish shoes.

And is wasn’t just Millsaps shoes that were stylish, his entire business casual look was well done. It’s hard to tell in this picture, but that Forsyth of Canada shirt is a woven combination of pinks and lavender. He said the thicker fabric makes the shirt versatile, allowing him to wear the designer shirts with just jeans or a full suit. The look was pulled together with a blue and red pinstriped navy blazer. The jacket is part of a Yves Saint Laurent suit he found at the Salvation Army.

Fashion Blogging: Cary resident accessorizes with flair
This week I’m showing off someone who knows how to accessorize. Cary resident Maria Stone is always put together well, says a friend who was lunching with her Thursday at NoFo in Raleigh’s Five Points neighborhood. Stone has the figure to pull off tucking in her new cashmere sweater, a move that allows her to show off her animal print belt. “It really pulls the outfit together,” Maria said of the belt, and she’s right.

She’s also sporting a leather cuff bracelet on her right wrist, which adds a little edge to her outfit. It’s hard to tell in these pics, but Maria is also wearing two different necklaces. One of those necklaces features an amber charm, with the translucent brown tones of the stone also highlighting the shades of brown in her sweater and belt. Not everyone can sport this much jewelry and look this good, so don’t go piling on everything in your jewelry box. There’s a certain balance you have to strike. So when in doubt whether to pair up your flashy earrings with a chunky necklace, just leave it off.

Fashion Blogging: Check Out the First Installment
It’s time for a new feature — the Sunday fashion blog! On Sundays, I hope to show off some of the funky, hip or just plain trendy fashions I see people in the Triangle rock. The premise is simple. During the week I’ll stop strangers who I think are well-dressed, snap their photo and feature them here.

This week features Raleigh resident Amy Yeager, who was waiting for some friends outside Raleigh Times Saturday afternoon. This chica knows how to layer and accessorize. She scored those cowgirl boots for $8 last year at Father and Son Antiques, the downtown vintage store that I absoultely love. She found the multicolor scarf at Rugged Warehouse. She claims that she “just threw a bunch of things on,” but Amy clearly knew what she was doing.
I also wanted to give Durham resident Suzanne Patterson some props for boldly wearing these rose-colored, heart-shaped glasses. Not everyone can pull off this look, but Patterson has been for the past year. I spotted her at Parker & Otis in downtown Durham on Thursday. Here’s what she said about the glasses: “I’ve been wearing them for fun everyday.” She bought them somewhere in Brightleaf Square, but she wouldn’t reveal where because she said she doesn’t want others to flock to the store to buy them. “I’ve worn them all the way across the country and back, and everyday, at least once a day, someone stops me and asks about them.”
